Our advisory board

Our specialist advisory board plays a key role in informing and advising the information we provide to our customers.

Mr. Peter Bowen-Simpkins, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist FRCOG, MA, MB,BS, LRCP, MRCS, MFFP. Peter is Chairman of the Advisory Board and currently the Medical Director of the London Women’s Clinic.

Previous to this appointment he had been a Consultant at Singleton Hospital in Swansea until 2005. He served on the Council of the RCOG for thirteen years and was Honorary Treasurer from 1998-2005.

He has been an active supporter of Wellbeing of Women, being a member of the executive committee for many years and latterly as a Trustee. He edits the Wellbeing Journal and he lectures, writes articles and answers press enquiries on behalf of the charity.

He recently completed the Hike for Hope in the Rift Valley in Kenya to raise much needed funds for WoW and Prostate UK.

Mrs. Nicola Richards is a partner in city law firm Macfarlanes. Nicola was recognised in The Lawyer's Hot 100 2011 in the "Making a difference" category and was shortlisted for IFLR Women in Business Law awards in the outstanding achievement category. She has three children and used Smart Cells International's services for the birth of her youngest child in 2007.

Professor Janice Rymer is Dean of Undergraduate Medicine and Professor of Gynaecology,  King’s College London School of Medicine.  She qualified with an MBCHB in 1981 from the University of Auckland, she became a member of the RCOG in 1987 and fellow of the FRANZCOG in 1990.  She was made a fellow of the RCOG in 2005. 

Mrs Karen Madgwick, DMLM, CSci, FIBMS is a Biomedical Scientist specialising in Transfusion Science. As part of her current role she works closely with thalassaemia and sickle cell transfusion dependant patients.

Dame Lorna Muirhead has spent nearly 40 years in clinical practice working as a midwife. In 1997, Dame Lorna became President of the Royal College of Midwives. She served two terms of office until 2004, having spent 8 years representing midwives in the UK and Internationally.
