Licensing for Adult Stem Cell Collections

A corporation in New York, called NeoStem Inc., focuses on processing long-term storage of adult stem cells. They do this by collecting and storing non-diseased stem cells for future use. Early February saw this corporation announcing that they had received a provisional license for such tissue procurement services within the state of New York.
This collection of adult stem cells for the New York State Department of Health for the ProHEALTH Care Associates is a stem cell collection facility that includes over 100 physicians to serve nearly half a million patients in and around New York. The chief executive officer of ProHEALTH, Dr. David Cooper said, "This alliance is a testament to our commitment to provide our patients with the leading edge of medical technology. We believe NeoStem's proprietary methodology for collecting and storing autologous adult stem cells will give patients in our community the ability to take advantage of stem cell therapies offered today, as well as new therapies and development."

Even though studies developing techniques for the use of various types of stem cells in the treatment of such heretofore incurable diseases is still being addressed, storing such stem cells in the event that future techniques and procedures will be productive may help to save millions of lives in years to come. NeoStem's chairman says, "We anticipate the opening of additional collection facilities in 2008, and we will continue to build out our nationwide network of collection centers." As such, the potential for future benefits may prove endless.
