A recent study has produced an analysis of the benefits of treating immune disorders as well as heart diseases with adult stem cells. The analysis went on to explain that there are two different types of stem cells: embryonic stem cells, which are harvested from embryos several days after fertilization. This method has long been controversial, not only in the United States but around the world. It has been a constant struggle for researchers in this area to receive funding and acceptance. Adult stem cells, on the other hand, are located throughout the human body in adults as well as children and provide an adequate replacement for stem cells for the use in replacing aging or damaged cell tissues. This second method is proving far more popular among general populations not only in the United States, but also globally. The use of umbilical cord blood has grown in popularity, as is seen from the proliferation of cord blood banks popping up around the world. Recent studies have published results that involve nearly a thousand patients with autoimmune diseases in various stages. Those treated with transplants of adult blood or blood cell stem cells had an effective disease remission effect. In addition, nearly 1000 heart attack patients as well as those with coronary artery disease showed modest improvements in cardiac function after adult stem cell transplantation. Of course, additional clinical trials are necessary in order to continue research and development of adequate treatments and therapies for such patients. |
