Earlier this week, a leading biotechnological company named ARIUS discovered and developed a new wave of antibody therapeutics, recently announcing that their company is now manufacturing a supply agreement for its product, CD44. The release of this drug will enable the initiation of human clinical trials to begin sometime in early 2008. CD44 is an anti-cancer antibody that will target novel epitopes of CD44 that is found in breast, prostate, and some colon cancers. Data from a previous testing program in non-human primate studies have demonstrated a non-toxic level of dosing limitations that have previously been impossible. Doses of up to 95 mg/kg of body weight have shown no toxic effects. This research is a huge breakthrough in the stem cell arena because many stem cells have exhibited a tendency toward malignancy once transplanted in the lab. The selection of this drug is based on cancer-killing abilities as determined by scientific study performed by the ARIUS’ Function FIRST technology. Discoveries of this kind will enable research to move forward at a much faster pace, as new stem cells will remain healthy and viable. ARIUS is a company founded in 1999, devoted to the discovery and development of new antibody therapies that will profoundly affect disease as we know it. Not only do companies such as this race toward the goal of curing human illness, but also benefit the healthcare industry as a whole by decreasing treatment costs. |
