Stem Cell Popularity Print E-mail
Many research and scientific laboratories have joined forces in the latest fight to continue to advance the positive outcomes of stem cell research. While stem cell research costs billions of dollars, scientific communities have collaborated to join teams to decrease individual costs to independent labs. Recently, six separate laboratories in Southern California combined their brainpower and talents.
USC, UC of Santa Barbara, the Children's Hospital of Southern California and the House Ear Institute, Caltech and the City of Hope have joined to create the Southern California Stem Cell Scientific Collaboration, otherwise to be known as the SC3. These scientists will focus primarily on cancer and diabetes at this time. Much progress is expected with expertise in such a wide range of talents and resources.

While some laboratories have the ability to grow stem cells, other organizations were unable to promote an environment able to do this. Some of the laboratories such as USC have been given research grants in amounts reaching $3 billion. Less fortunate labs have been able to ‘trade’ imaging equipment, chemistry, and science materials to form a ‘corporation’ of great magnitude.

Initiating such collaboration is sure to become a standard for other cities and communities who have varying resources and monies available to continue the forward progress being made in an otherwise expensive, and sometimes-difficult scientific arena.
