Lorna has spent nearly 40 years in clinical practice working as a midwife. In 1997, Dame Lorna became President of the Royal College of Midwives. She served two terms of office until 2004, having spent 8 years representing midwives in the UK and Internationally. In 2000 she was honoured with a OBE for her services to midwifery. In 2001 she became a fellow of the RCOG and was made an Honorary Fellow of Liverpool’s John Moores University the same year. In 2004 she received the inaugural aware from the RCM (Royal College of Midwives) for her lifetime achievement in midwifery.
