- What is adipose tissue?
Adipose tissue is made up of adipocytes (fat cells), blood cells, endothelial cell, immune cells and adipose-derived stem cells. Extracting your stem cells from this mix is important for optimising the quality and homogenous composition of your sample.
- Where else are mesenchymal stem cells found?
They can be found in various locations including cord blood and bone marrow. In adults, however, the most abundant and easiest place to source them is from adipose tissue.
- Do I need to store my stem cells if I have already stored them for my child?
The best source of stem cells for personal treatments is your own. This is a unique chance to store your ADSCs so you no longer have to rely on a match with your child’s sample.
- What treatments are currently available?
The application of ADSCs is vast. Examples include repairing damage to cartilage, tissue repair, wound healing, anti-ageing skin treatments, and body augmentations (in lieu of fillers and implants).
- Is there an age limit for having my sample collected?
Anyone over the age of 18 may have their sample collected.
- Will Smart Cells arrange my appointment?
Smart Cells will arrange your clinical appointment for you with an approved physician. The fat harvesting procedure is performed in a sterile, controlled environment by specially trained clinical staff.
- Who can perform this procedure?
The procedure is straightforward and quick so any physician who is trained to extract a small fat sample. Smart Cells will assist you with approved physicians and clinics to attend.
- What happens after my sample is taken?
Your physician will package your sample in a specially designed, temperature-controlled kit which will be couriered to our partner laboratory in San Marino, Italy. Here your ADSCs will be extracted and stored.
- Where will my sample be processed and stored?
Your sample will be processed and stored at our partner laboratory in San Marino (Bioscience Institute) who are fully licensed and regulated by the Republic of San Marino – Authorisation, Accreditation and Quality of Health Service, Social & Health and Social & Education (License number 791/2011).
- How long does it take to process a sample?
Please allow around 4 weeks to isolate, extract and expand your cells.
- How long can I store my stem cells for?
You can store your sample for as long as you wish (subject to payment of annual storage fee).
